Reflecting upon the rights of victims of child sexual abuse under the evolved provisions of POCSO ACT 2012

The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act of 2012 stands as a landmark legislation in India, to address child sexual abuse. Despite over a decade of implementation, the rising incidence of such abuse has led to amendments and new policy guidelines by the Union government and the Ministry of Women and Child Development. This study reviews secondary literature to assess the current state of child sexual abuse in India, evaluate existing provisions, and examine the rights of minor victims. Utilizing resources from online public libraries, websites, news reports, and publications from government and NGOs. The research highlights the urgent need for enhanced awareness of victim rights, specialized training, and comprehensive support, including rehabilitation and compensation. The study also underlines the roles of 'support persons' and social workers. Furthermore, the paper offers targeted recommendations for professionals and practitioners working in this field.
