Abstract

This paper is an attempt to examine the concept of women empowerment and women security with reference to the exhaustive provisions available in Law. This paper also highlights the need for Legal literacy for women which is sine qua non for the women empowerment. Legal literacy and women empowerment surely are complementary. The more a women is aware of the law in whatever way it is, the more she is empowered substantially for her own protection and for protection of her minor children, let alone seeking her other claims. Legal literacy would pave the way for self realization of women and would demystify the hoax of male chauvinism. Unemployment and poverty, alcoholism, marital maladjustment, lack of proper moral education, religion and inefficient legal machinery are considered to be some of the factors responsible for committal crimes against women. Here lies the importance of legal education for women for it can be the real weapon of empowerment.
