women are still majority of the poor, female unemployment rates are higher than those of males and, more worryingly, a wave of misogyny seems to have risen as a result of women's advances in education and work. Media is an important mode of development motivator, particularly due to recent advancement in electronic and information technology, it become more powerful and effective in masses. The government and non governmental agencies working in favour of women may focus on women's political and economic power; these are, without doubt, important dimensions and improvement in gender equality in these areas is certainly linked to a better status of women. However, changes in these dimensions are neither necessary nor sufficient conditions of empowerment. On one hand, a country may not present any changes in these indicators, but it still may have made less visible important improvements in terms of women's empowerment, such as reducing violence against women and increasing the protection of women's rights (including control over their body and sexuality).
