Abstract

In India land has been gaining importance due to diverse ways of its utilization. So people are depending on land for the livelihood. Land bears huge importance for the farmer because they cultivate food grains and fulfil basic needs from it. In many parts of caste ridden Indian society land has been treated as ancestral resource but in current scenario it is in threat because of dichotomous view on land as public or private property. The central theme of the paper is to entrench into the issues hovering around land and community mobilization. Either it is Noida or Niyamgiri the role of the government is doubtful; the people seems to have no longer have faith in government and their standing against oppression sponsored by the state. The state has proved itself to be highest of violence by suppressing the innocent voices from grass roots. We emphasize significance of a lot of conflict is going on between government and public. How can they give their own land to any industry or government? There must be good compensation or better rehabilitation to the farmers/landholders so that they can enjoy the freedom of choices, otherwise it will be exploitation. The role of land acquisition act, 1894 and Land Acquisition and Rehabilitation and Resettlement bill, 2011 attract special mention in this paper. The implementations of these policies are significant so that there should not be any problem in the development of country and also to landholders.
