Abstract

This paper's objective is to shed light on Digital Media and Piracy in Indian Film Industry. The Internet, as a global medium, has the potential to reach a limitless number of people instantaneously, with minimizing expenses, and with no restrictions in terms of time and geographical limits. The digitization of content has transformed the communication process and people have unlimited access to content available on the internet. In India Copyright ensures certain minimum safeguards of the rights of authors over their creations, thereby protecting and rewarding creativity but not from piracy. The copyright law amendment 2012 is still facing some issues, but it is hoped the new law along with the IT Act will result in strengthening law enforcement and judicial enforcement in dealing with all kinds of plagiarism. It has become a worldwide crime problem, because of the relative ease with which it can be committed, even over long distances.
