Girl child India is affected by gender gaps leading to inequities that are visible in various areas. Some of these include lack of access to services, resources, information and understanding of human rights and right to decision-making. Consistent presence of gender inequalities is somewhere also associated with challenges like poverty, malnutrition and education. To bridge the gaps, there is a need to ensure that there are opportunities for equal participation and access to various services. Apart from this, there is also need to take numerous measures such as, building up of positive self image, development of ability to think critically and foster decision making. In this paper the author has not only outlined various issues related to girl child in India but has also given an elaborate sketch of the initiatives taken by the government of India at both national and international level.
