Abstract

The issue of HIV has mostly been looked at from a masculine perspective. Role of women has been relegated to as a vector or vessel of the infection. As we are trying to contain the infection through the various interventions with high risk groups including sex workers, MSM, Intravenous Drug users, migrants and truckers; efforts are showing results, We have reasons to celebrate and share the success story. The high risk groups are showing adaption of risk reduction strategies. Incidentally and unfortunately as the epidemic has matured, women account for growing proportion of people living with HIV/AIDS. Women constitute almost half of the world population. The inequality is ubiquitous in various forms. Occupying a low social status; in any challenging situation women are the most disadvantageous. HIV is one such challenge and because of the sexual transmission it tends to get clustered in families especially between couples. It is affecting people in their most productive years irrespective of their caste creed and colour or place of origin. The women get infected despite not being in risky behavior, after infection, they face problems throughout the life. There is effort to understand their dilemmas, struggle and support when they faced with the deadly virus.
