Abstract

World is in knowledge economy – the statement sounds more a cliche but is a reality today. The knowledge economy puts premium on knowledge creation, dissemination and implementation i.e. knowledge management for sustainable growth. The role and responsibilities of leadership becomes more of a guardian for knowledge management and knowledge workers development. We as a country need leadership, knowledge management and sustainable growth at different dimensions and at multiple levels. In this paper, the author focuses on three levels – national political leadership, firm level leadership and leadership for institutions of higher learning – universities and research centers. There is urgent need for putting knowledge at the centre of our development efforts. The issues of leadership, knowledge management, sustainable growth and spirituality are interrelated and interdependent and share a symbiotic relationship.
