Music, emotions and work: an empirical study in the education sector

Abstract

Music and emotions have always been considered facilitators of each other. However, association of music in professional life has been a controversial aspect. There are mixed views on the belief that music evokes and effects emotions at work, thereby leading to emotional balance and enhanced workplace productivity. This paper is based on empirical research and tries to explore how strongly this belief is embedded in the academic professionals of India among different age groups. The findings revealed that majority of professionals believe that music evokes and influences emotions at work, helping them to stay emotionally balanced and hence increase their productivity. The results also showed the most evoked, least evoked, most influenced and least influenced emotions by music among different age groups at work.
