The paper presents algal flora collected from various polluted and unpolluted water bodies like ponds, lakes, ditches, pools, rivers and streams of Kumaun Himalaya. The collection is based on intensive field surveys during 1985–2004. Species of green algae and diatoms were very common in fresh and clean waters whereas polluted water was inhabitated by species of cyanophyceae. Reduction in the number of generic variety of algae has been recorded in polluted water.
