Comparative Studies of Barley Cultivars with Reference to Morphological Features and Cytological Behaviours

Seeds of ten different cultivars of barley, collected from Economic Botanist Rabi Cereal C. S. A. U. Kanpur have manifested wide variation in there seed producibility and chromosomal behaviour having 2n=14 chromosomes. In each observation of quantitative traits and chromosomal behaviour, the genotypes looked normal but in some cases loose chromosomal association and reduced chiasmata frequency per bivalent were observed. In some cases delayed separation, formation of laggards and bridges were also observed at Anaphase I. Thus pollen fertility varied between 77 to 80% which indicates stable yield potential.
