Species Diversity in Lentic Macrophytes of Bareilly District

District Bareilly has several lentic habitats which are represented by temporary and permanent ponds supporting several aquatic microphytes as well as macrophytes. For the present investigation four sites situated in different directions around Bareilly were selected. The ponds located at their respective sites were surveyed at monthly interval throughout the study period (June 2005 – May 2007) and the macrophytes were collected and identified. In total 41 species of macrophytes belonging to 38 genera and 23 families were recorded which included one species of Algae, 2 species of Pteridophyta and 38 species of angiosperms. Angiospermic macrophytes belonged to 11 families of dicots and 9 families of monocot. The macrophytic flora represented all the five classes of hydrophytes, however maximum number of species exhibited EA (emergent anchored) habit.
