Dark incubation (24–96 h) of wheat primary leaves of 8 days old plants induced several alterations in photosynthetic properties. Loss of chlorophyll, protein and carotenoid depending on the extent of incubation has been reported. Between two photosystems, photosystem II is main target for dark incubation induced aging. Thus the alterations of pigments and protein is responsible for alterations of electron transport in detached wheat primary leaves.
