Ten species {Chrysanthemum coronarium L., Calendula officinalis L., Eclipta alba Hassk., Launaea nudicaulis (L.) Hook. f., Lactuca sativa L., Saussurea candicans Clarke, Silybum marianum (L.) Gertn., Tridax procumbens L., Vernonia cinerea (L.) Less, and Youngia japonica (L.) DC.} of family Asteraceae were examined for their chromosome number, pairing behaviour, ploidy level and meiotic irregularities. The basic chromosome number in these species varied from x = 7 to 18. Meiotic abnormalities in the form of quadrivalents/univalents and unequal distribution at anaphase stage have been observed. Results have been evaluated and discussed.
