A field experiment was conducted in the Tripura University campus to assess the effectiveness of certain protective compounds (EDTA, vitamin-C and methionine) in counteracting the deleterious effects of foliar spray of 10 μM K2Cr2O7 on Pisum sativum L.. It was observed that in treatments where mixture of toxic salt (10 μM K2Cr2O7)plus stimulatory concentration any one of protective substances, viz., 1 mM EDTA, 1 mM vitamin-C and 1 mM methionine) were sprayed to the leaves, the level of in vivo NR activity and buffer soluble protein levels on 7th, 14th and 21st after spray and plant growth and biomass parameters on 50 day of growth increased to a greater extent than that observed with spray of toxic salts alone. The gel-electrophoresis of leaf soluble protein from various treatments showed a number of protein bands in control set but in the toxic salt treatment a few bands were missing on that position where the bands were present in the unsprayed leaves.
