Aegle marmelos commonly known as "Bilwa "or "Bael" is a high value plant for its characteristic aroma and medicinal value. The oil and dry fruit powder is an important export commodity from India earning foreign revenue for the country. A number of chemical constituents from different parts of plant have been extracted like aegelin, marmelosin, coumarin, B-sitosterol and alkaloids. This plant is a rich source of amino acid, galactose and fatty acid. The compound isolated from plant show a variety of pharmacological activity.
