Abstract

Sar-planina is a marked Central Balkan mountain influenced by Mediterranean and Continental climate. Heterogeneous geological composition, jagged relief, refugial character during the Ice Age and very complex floristic composition, as well as a combination of various ecological conditions changing in a small area, have resulted in unusual vegetative diversity of this mountain. Although it represents unique complex of different natural ecosystems types, this mountain is still not adequatiy protected.
