Abstract

The study was conducted in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand state to explore uses of plants in the treatment of animal health among the people. The study area included five villages of this region namely Sitla, Satkhol, Simayal, Odakhan and Baret of Nainital District. The information was collected through interviews with local persons having traditional knowledge of practices for the treatment of domestic animals. During the study uses of 32 plants species for various diseases were recorded. These plants were found to be effective in the treatment of a variety of animal health problems, and most were also scientifically confirmed. Other plant uses practiced by people still need to be explored.
