Seasonal Bud Sprouting: A Challenge For in vitro Micropropagation in Saffron
Abstract
Season dependence of available in vitro protocols of saffron limits their use in commercialization. Making use of in vitro corm cultures as ex plant not only made the protocol seasonal independent but also increased the proliferation ratio from the single cycle of 1:120 to 1:1800. MS Media supplemented with PGRs (BAP/NAA) and Growth retardant (CCC) and Sucrose has been found stimulating agents for inducing sprouting/shooting/multiple shooting and corm development.
