Regenerative Competence in Root explants of Medicinally important Orchid Cymbidium aloifolium: An in vitro study

Abstract

The paper reports the possibility of using root explants for micropropagating Cymbidium aloifolium. Mitra et al. (1976) medium supplemented with 2, 4-D (2mgl−1) induced callusing at the root tip. However, cent% explants responded via shoot bud formation within 13.25 ± 0.95 days. The neoformations organogenated subsequently. The plantlets grown on M medium supplemented with NAA (3mgl−1) and those with 4–5 leaves and a number of roots and further these were subjected to a two-step hardening procedure by subjecting them to in vitro and ex vitro hardening. These survived with 60% frequency.
