The packaging mater ials like shr ink film or cling film or low density polyethylene film (LDPF) are effectively used for enhancing shelf life of fruits through decreasing water loss, rate of respiration and ripening. The investigation was carried to determine effective packaging material for Kinnow fruits to minimize quality loss during storage.
The investigation was carried through analysis of fruit firmness, TSS, acidity, Vitamin-C, and sugar content of packaging film packed fruits. Analysis of observations was done as per CRD (Completely Randomized Design) and significance of treatments was analyzed at 5% level of significance
Shrink film packaging mater ial of 125 micron and 25 micron can be used to maintain high fruit firmness (1586.02g and 1524.46g compression force, respectively); minimum spoilage (1.09% and 1.59%, respectively); high TSS (10.98% and 10.55%, respectively); high titratable acidity (0.55% and 0.53%, respectively); high ascorbic acid (19.63 mg/100g and 19.09 mg/100g, respectively) and total sugar content (6.39% and 6.14%, respectively).
Shrink film packaging mater ials of 125 micron and 25 micron can be used to extend shelf-life of fresh Kinnow mandarin fruits with minimum loss in nutritional value.
