Commiphora wightii (Arn.) Bhandari., commonly known as ‘Guggal’ is a medicinal plant that is classified as “Critically Endangered” by International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). In order to understand its status in Rajasthan, we made extensive survey in 604 sites during 2009–2013 in western Rajasthan so as to assess its threat status at regional level for future conservation actions. Area of occupancy (AOO) was calculated by grid cell method as 272 km2 and population reduction was found at 56.25% in the past 12 years. With this field data we evaluated the species under ‘Endangered’ category’ regionally (north west India/Indian Thar Desert) following IUCN Red List guidelines.
