Abstract

Salinity-tolerant cucumber inbred lines namely CRC-8 (P1), CHC-2 (P2) and G-338 (P3) and salinity-sensitive inbreds viz., CH-20 (P4), Pusa Uday (P5) and DC-1 (P6) were crossed in half-diallel fashion to study heterosis foryield and its components traits. Significant heterosis was observed over better parent and standard parent (Pusa Uday) for yield and its attributing traits. The hybrid P1x P5 was observed to be the best performing F1 hybrids as it showed high heterosis for number of fruits per plant (55.13%), fruit production per plant (44.81%) and days to first female flower opening (−17.84%). Additionally this hybrid could be suitable for the saline areas of our country as it had salinity tolerant parent P1
