The goal of law firms is to pull in additional work and utilize it for commercial purposes, which is not permitted in India. Law firms and lawyers are not permitted to publicise in their websites for the purpose to attract more clients. Guidelines just permits them to mention about which field in which they involved i.e., in civil, corporate or criminal or some other specialised areas.
All throughout the 1980 to 1990, Indian advocates would promote their firms by facilitating stupendous gatherings for their clients, both present and prospective, and depending on on a combination of contacts, connections and gifts to ensure a stable flow of work. During this past decade, rapid rate of change was seen. Lawyers went all attracting more international clients and try to make their goodwill in international market, by making consistent foreign visits and participating in international conferences.
The solicitors and advocates in law firm's perspectives on legal marketing are transforming. They are presently prepared to take, acknowledge and grasp the necessary steps. But, the rules and regulations which still leave no space to move. India remains to be a closed legal market, not only in terms of international clients or lawyers’ entry but also in terms of commercialising of law firms.
