Human rights of indigenous people and remedies for protection

Abstract

Indigenous people constitute about 67.7 million population of India. There are some specific constitutional privileges, protection and benefits are considered as they are historically disadvantaged and backward. Since time immemorial, aboriginal peoples are facing many socio-economic and psychological problems. The Article 46 of the Indian constitution guidelines for the welfare of the Scheduled Tribe to look after by the state government special assistance programmes for the sustainable development and special reservation quota. However, the Article 342 some of the procedure followed for specification of scheduled tribe is prescribed.
