The concept of marriage has a direct relationship with the society in which it is practiced. Society decides the essential requirements for entering this relationship. Now, Law and society together regulate it. The relationship of marriage is governed by set societal norms and customs. Generally, it is a union between heterosexuals. But homosexual couples also want to make their relationship recognized by law in the form of marriage. This paper examines the right to enter into marriage in the light of the Supriyo judgment. This paper assesses the impact of legalizing same sex marriage on Indian society. It discusses the attitude of people of different age groups towards such marriages. It also covers the advantages and disadvantages of legalizing such marriage. It points towards a dilemma in which, on one hand, we have to take care of the rights of homosexuals and on the other hand, we have to maintain our rich culture and values. All the stakeholders should adopt a midway approach.
