Abstract

International human rights law is a source of norms and standards for the practice of human rights by measures that are dynamic and constantly evolving according to the emerging understanding of contexts of rights and violations. Women's participation in this process in recent years has given new meaning to the concept and context of rights. Many conventions and treaties are in place today which provide for arange of rights for women. But these instruments have not necessarily facilitated the realization of women's rights in actual practice. India has also ratified various international conventions and human rights instruments-committing to secure equal rights of Women. However, there exists a wide gap between the goals enunciated in the international conventions on the one hand and situational reality of women on the other. This article critically examines the position of women under international law.
