The relevance of modern religious movements has accounted for perspectives in theory and research regarding the place of religion in society. Earlier sociological studies tended to assume the plausibility of the "secularization thesis", where decline in religious faith and practice has been interpreted as the recession of organized religion from public life. This paper intends to use available analytical tools from sociological perspectives in looking into the case of one religious movement in the Philippines using data about its social organizational and narratives of individual members.
