The present paper provides an overview on the Dalits and the Dalit issues coverd in social sciences. Dalits are at the lowest step of social ladder or social stratification. Ginsbert while defining social stratification has said that -"Social stratification is the division of society in permanent groups or categories linked with each other by the relationship of superiority and subordination". (Agarwal 2006) The paper attempts to elaborate the view point of social sciences on the various issues related to dalits and also advocates rights to up liftment of Dalits.
