Abstract

In this article an attempt has been made to understand the nature and dynamics of Indian modernity in a sociological manner. Indian modernity has been conceptualized in terms of specific philosophical dimensions of Indian society with specific emphasis on Indian tradition and social structure which are pluralistic in nature. Indian modernity has been characterized in terms of spirituality, sensitivity and cultural pluralism which have developed in India during the historical dynamics of Indian philosophy and Indian culture. In a single sentence, one can argue that Indian modernity highlights the concept of totality, holism at the level of civil society and equality, freedom and justice at the political society which have come into existence with the development of democracy and ethical capitalism.
