Food is the necessary prerequisite for the growth and development of an individual as well as to attain good health. There are several food consumption patterns prevailing world wide both in urban as well as tribal populations. Food habits are greatly influenced by thoughts, beliefs, notions, traditions and taboos of the society. Other than these sociodemographic aspects also influence food and food habits of a society. In other words we can say that food and food habits are deeply related to cultural and ecology. The present paper which is the outcome of rigorous anthropological field work deals with the food consumption pattern and associated habits among the Jaunsarese of Jaunsar- Bawar area in Dehradun district of Uttarakhand.
