Abstract

Stature estimation is an important tool for identification of human remains, especially in forensic examination based on the fact that the body segments of an individual exhibit relationship with their stature and can be determined by various methods like multiplication factor or regression equation. In the present study, 175 healthy individuals (91 females and 84 males) age between 18 to 45 years of "Ahirwar's Population" from Uttar Pradesh were taken. The descriptive statistical analyses show that the males and females can be compared by the body dimensions, and shows that all the body dimensions of females are less as compared to males. These sex difference are statistically significant (p<0.01). Correlation coefficients are higher in hand length and foot length in both sexes. It is also observed that in males Foot length (r=0.760) and in female Hand length (0.692) also show highly statistical significant correlation value with respect to stature. The study suggested that estimation of a living height can be made possible using various body measurements of the body.
