Women play a significant role in different spheres of household management which strengthen the family and its economy. This paper try to explore the role of women in the activities of family and look through the problems that why women is subordinated in the perspective of women empowerment. This paper is based on the research study conducted in the Bhooma Miri village of Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district, Assam. It shows that women have a significant involvement in terms of labour activities in income generating aspects but their contribution is neglected or unrecognised by the society. This leads to subordination of women in the society. Due to contemporary changes some dynamics in income generating activities have been observed
