Major depressive disorder has been one of the growing reasons of public health concern. It presents with vast amounts of heterogeneity in clinical presentation yet the underlying pathophysiology is poorly understood. The primary cause for this is the insufficiency of studies investigating into the mechanisms underlying the mechanisms as to how the various risk factors interact with each other. Investigations into the relative excess risk due to interaction for depression would help in predicting patients at higher risk and thus help in formulation of prevention strategies focusing on major depression patients groups depending upon the severity of risks.
