Osteoporosis is a common disease diagnosed by low bone mineral density (BMD), deterioration in bone microarchitecture, and increases the fracture risk. In the coming years, 230 million Indians likely to be over the age of 50 years, and 20% are women with osteoporosis. The main risk factors are age, gender, diet and genetic variants. Both type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are linked with an increased threat of osteoporosis fractures. Clearer identification of risk factors and alteration of biomarkers for far ahead bone health will allow initial preventative strategies.
