This article examines some instances of imperialist motives and ideas at work in academic endeavours today. It looks at how the media have unwittingly indulged in presenting audience with the latest developments in the notorious field of Race Science. Thereafter, it considers various departments of Asian Studies in the West, whose colonial and Euro-centrist fascinations have been imposed on Asia to create “an Asia that never was”, which has in turn affected the self-perceptions of Asian populations.
