Abstract

In recent years, China has become a dominant player on the world stage and its economic rise has important global implications. This essay investigates the country's achievements, its path towards greater development, the challenges it faces and the implications of its growth for the United States. It concludes that the US, and the West as a whole, ought to take the threat from China seriously, in terms of costs to its economy and the environment and more generally in terms of Chinese global dominance.
