The USA's pursuit of nuclear military supremacy is leading to a revival of the Cold War rivalry with the Russian Federation and to rising tensions with China. Europe is in the middle of this arena and is, in fact, held hostage by both Washington and Moscow as a result of the US's decision to embark on its National Missile Defense programme, designed to enable the Pentagon to carry out first strikes against any adversaries of its choosing.
