The European Union is the largest economy in the world. Its gross domestic product is larger than the United States’ and its population is greater than that of North America. It has the potential to strengthen links with Asian markets, especially India and China. From the Indian perspective, these links could take the form of foreign direct investment by large European multinational corporations that see the potential of India as a supplier of global inputs—making their supply chain more cost effective—and as a country offering additional economic benefits.
