This paper evaluates the biological degradation of humankind caused by the use of different prostheses. The more we entrust our specific human characteristics to technical devices, the less we have them for ourselves and the more similar to machines we become. Technical progress aims at the anthropomorphisation of machines and equally, at the mechanomorphisation of people. Both processes contribute to dehumanisation. Modern machines have taken over some of our physical functions and even certain intellectual activities. As a result of technical progress, we have become invalid in ever larger degrees, and contemporary man is inclined to increasingly lean on “the crutches of technology”. Therefore, the important ethical question that arises is, “should life in the future be supported boundlessly and uncritically by technology”?.
