As long as humans have existed as conscious beings they have lived surrounded by nature, utilising technology, at first rudimentary and then increasingly more sophisticated. This paper highlights the changing notions of the critical triangle—the interaction between humans, nature and technology. It illustrates how this relationship has evolved throughout millennia as well as how it should evolve in the future, for humankind to overcome the severe global challenges it faces. In addition, the thinking of ancient Stoic philosophers, especially Seneca, is considered worthwhile in several respects. Stoicism was the most important and influential development in Hellenistic philosophy, offering a Unitarian philosophical view of the world.
