A global theory of wisdom should be based on both historical traditions and recent psychological research and philosophical thinking. It explores a variety of important trends and futurist themes, such as globalisation, technological evolution, the world-wide need for relevant, high quality education and the challenge of environmental–ecological management and it explains the connection between wisdom and each of these critical trends and challenges in our modern world. The author also demonstrates why the cultivation of wisdom as a guiding light in our future psycho-social evolution will empower humanity to constructively, ethically and intelligently address such contemporary challenges as well as realise the best within ourselves.
