This article analyses economic development and wealth distribution in Brazil in the recent past. It studies the mandates of the Fernando Henrique Cardoso (1995–2002) and the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (2003–2010) governments, both of which were elected twice. It also details the economic history of Brazil, to give a better understanding of the circumstances contextualised in it.
