Abstract

This analysis of the “Rise of Asia” thesis focusing on a rising China and to some extent India is divided into three parts. The first deals with the background and presentation of the main underlying arguments and factors. The second explains strategic constraints and synergy deficits as negative factors. The third raises and investigates certain fundamental questions, by which the theoretical strengths and weaknesses of the thesis may be tested and the ongoing debate on the issue moved towards a logical conclusion. Will Asia build a new global system shaped by its values and interests or will its major emergent states be included in the current regime which will be amended by the dominant Western powers to accommodate them?
