Globalisation and National Security: Contemporary Views and the Ongoing Debate

Globalisation, a current social phenomenon has already generated much debate among both proponents and opponents. Some consider it a recent arrival of neocapitalism/neo-imperialism or a new stage in modernisation/developmentalism goals. Others regard it as a new industrial revolution backed by state-of-the-art powerful technologies, which has led to an explosion of innovative ideas but has severely strained national security and international peace, particularly in the context of the escalation of terrorism around the world. Nonetheless, globalisation is a natural social process concerned with the inevitable and indispensable progress and welfare of humanity, which today is again at a crossroads.
