Same-Sex Marriage, Human Rights and Cultural Diversity: An African Perspective

This paper analyses current Western policy about homosexuality and looks at the aetiology of this behaviour now made acceptable on the grounds of human rights as well as the sociological implications on the family and marriage system. It contends that the pressure on and intimidation of African states by the West to force them to legalise same-sex marriage, violates the principles of the sovereignty of states and non-interference in the internal affairs of nations. It argues for the need for the international community to come together to formulate a new world order and redefine or moderate human rights to preserve public morality. It concludes that any law devoid of morality is shallow and debases society instead of reshaping it in a peaceful and harmonious way.
