Abstract

The EmDrive engine is a new class of electrical machine which converts electricity directly into thrust without requiring reaction mass. The scientifi c principle behind this invention has been known since the mid-nineteenth century, when James C Maxwell discovered it. Electromagnetic waves carry momentum and the simple thrust equation has been experimentally tested and verified by at least five leading facilities in various countries. Work has already begun on the second generation, that is, superconductive EmDrive for low cost access to space, which would make solar energy powered satellites viable. Clean and non-polluting EmDrive propulsion would also facilitate the commercial use of long haul space “vertical takeoff and landing” planes allowing silent and carbon dioxide neutral air travel. Although powerful vested interests may try to delay or block the dissemination of this technology, developing countries should have an advantage, as they are controlled less by oligopolistic fi nancial and technological multinational corporations.
