CHina's silk roads strategy: How should india respond?

China has initiated a Silk Road grand strategy in Central Asia and a String of Pearls scheme in the littoral regions of the Indian Ocean and adjoining areas. It has also worsened the tense scenario in the Asia-Pacific region, including the South China Sea, through its expansionist foreign policy based on its growing military power. Beijing's immediate goal seems to be the establishment of hegemony along the Silk Road across three continents and then ultimately around the world. Against this backdrop, India has moved from a Look East to an Act East policy and has strengthened strategic relations with all littoral states around its maritime zone as well as further afield including Southeast Asia, the Persian Gulf, West Asia and the African continent. New Delhi now needs to evolve an institutional network between all Asian countries in the form of a regional bulwark of “Greater Asia ”to consolidate its maritime position and response.
