Abstract

While it is hoped that the situation in the Korean peninsula will improve after the Singapore summit, the reality may be different due to unforeseen eventualities. In the present scenario, it seems that both Pyongyang and Seoul have realised the futility of their continuing hostility and the legacy of perpetuating conflict. They appear to be coming together with a view to establishing peace, prosperity and security not only for their own countrymen but also in the interest of peace loving humanity around the world. This raises the prospects of a possible lasting solution of the yet unresolved issues of the divided peninsula. For this however, there must also be a decline in the interference and influence of external powers in pursuit of their own vested interests.
