Global politics seems to be transitioning from unipolarity to bipolarity or multipolarity with the “unipolar moment” having ended around 2016. This article focuses on certain suggested parameters and predictions for the immediate future in terms of the balance of power theory. As a template for this focus, it reviews a publication by Andrey Kortunov that touches on this transitional subject. The introduction features several grounding points of theory itself, followed by three additional parts—Kortunovs thoughts relative to where future global constellations of nations may rest, a critique ofhis perspectives and certain conclusions about possible balance of power and other theory predictions. The paper uses simple definitions for international relations theory as the easier path to understanding and officiating foreign affairs transactions. Such definitions are also central contributions to theories on coming international trends.
